In December 2022, the Spanish Parliament approved the law to promote the emerging business ecosystem (also known as the start-up law).This law aims to simplify the procedures for creating new companies and establishes new incentives for entrepreneurs and qualified international workers.Among other measures, Spain created the visa and residence authorization for international teleworkers (digital nomads) who have graduated or have more than three years of experience.This new residence permit is aimed at both employees of a company who work remotely and professionals who can provide their services remotely.Foreigners who are not in Spain when submitting the application will obtain a visa that will be valid for a maximum of one year. Those interested in maintaining their residence in Spain may apply for a residence permit for digital nomads, which will be valid for three years. When this permit is about to expire, a two-year extension will be allowed.Those who are already in Spain when submitting the application will obtain a residence authorization for digital nomads, which will be valid for three years.
